| 'Thrown under the bus'
comment 'way out of line' By Duane Wordsworth, News
Lampoon correspondent
February 23, 2008--MSNBC has suspended correspondent David
Shuster for the second time this month, NBC News president Steve
Capus announced late last night.
According to Capus, Shuster's latest suspension is for comments he made during
an
interview with TVNewser's Gail
Shister. Shuster had been back on the job for just one day.
During the Shister interview, Shuster was asked if his previous
suspension for saying Bill and Hillary Clinton were "pimping out" their
daughter, Chelsea, would have happened if Hardball host Chris Matthews
had not previously raised heads when he said the public was
sympathetic toward Hillary only because of her philandering husband.
"Does it bother me that I was thrown under the bus to pay for the
sins of the father?" Shuster asked rhetorically. "No. As somebody
who's covered politics for a while, I understand all the forces that were
in play."
After MSNBC got wind of Shuster's remark, they responded quickly by
suspending the beleaguered correspondent again, this time for a month.
"David might have been alright if he hadn't mentioned buses, which
often contain minorities and children, or implying that fathers throw
children under buses, or implying that Chris Matthews is David's father," explained Capus. "We
plan to enroll David in sensitivity classes that will help him better
understand how to censor himself."
"Can you believe this s---?" Shuster asked as he left his
MSNBC office. "I feel like I'm back in high school, though I don't
think I ever got suspended twice in a month." Related story:
